These FAQs are for teachers registering their school for the Juvenes Translatores contest. They answer the most common questions about registration, preparing students, contest day and certificates.
The contest rules are available in all 24 EU official languages under Useful documents on the 2026–2027 contest page.
Before you register
Which schools can participate?
Any state or private secondary school offering a full curriculum can participate in the contest. This includes vocational secondary schools. To be eligible, schools must be located in an EU country.
Schools or institutions that only provide language courses are not eligible to participate.
Which students are eligible?
Only students born in 2009 are eligible for the 2026-2027 contest. Although school systems differ across the EU, using the same age criterion ensures equal treatment for all participants.
Can each student choose a different language combination?
Yes. Each student can choose their own source and target language from any of the 24 EU official languages, making 552 possible language combinations.
Students cannot select Latin, Ancient Greek or languages spoken in the EU that are not EU official languages.
Register your school
Can I use the same account as last year?
No. You need to create a new school account each year.
In line with the Juvenes Translatores privacy statement, all personal data entered during registration is deleted after each edition of the contest.
How do I register my school?
You can register your school from 1 September (12:00 Brussels time) to 12 October 2026 on the contest platform.
Once registration opens, create your school's account, complete the registration form and submit it.
How do I know my registration was successful?
After you submit the form for your school, you will receive an email with a link to confirm your registration.
After you click the link, you will receive a confirmation email.
If you do not receive these emails, check your spam folder. Make sure that you use an email address you can access throughout the contest, including after the registration period.
I cannot log in to my school account. What should I do?
Go to the contest platform and enter the username and password you created when registering your school.
Before contacting us:
- check that you have entered your username and password correctly (including special characters and spaces)
- make sure there are no extra spaces before or after your username or password
- use the password reset option if you've forgotten your password (we do not have access to your password)
- restart your computer and try again
If the problem persists, contact us by email (DGT-TRANSLATORES
ec [dot] europa [dot] eu (DGT-TRANSLATORES[at]ec[dot]europa[dot]eu)) and include a screenshot of the page where the error occurs.
Prepare your students
How can I prepare my students?
A good way to prepare is to use translation texts from previous editions under real contest conditions:
- 2 hours
- paper and online dictionaries allowed
- no machine translation, AI tools or spell checkers
You can find previous source texts under Get ready on the 2026-2027 contest page.
After the practice translation, review the texts with your students and discuss possible improvements.
You can then select the authors of the 5 best translations to represent your school. It's also a good idea to identify a reserve student in case one of the selected participants cannot take part.
What is the theme of this year's translation texts?
The texts for the 2026–2027 contest will focus on Erasmus+: 40 years of connecting lives and enriching minds.
They will be published under Useful documents on the 2026–2027 contest page when the contest starts.
How should I supervise my students during the contest?
You are responsible for making sure your students follow the contest rules.
Students must not use:
- spell checkers
- computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools
- machine translation tools (such as Google Translate or DeepL)
- artificial intelligence (AI) tools
Translations produced using any of these tools will be disqualified.
Contest day
How will students access the contest platform?
After registering your students, you'll receive an email containing each participant's username and password (these cannot be modified or reset).
The same information is also available on the contest platform.
We recommend that students test their login between 10:00 on 20 November 2026 and 22:00 on 25 November 2026 (Brussels time).
What are the technical requirements?
To take part in the contest, your school will need:
- an internet connection of at least 1 Mbit/s
- one of these operating systems:
- Windows 11 or later
- macOS 15 or later
- one of these web browsers:
- Chrome 149 or later
- Firefox 151 or later
- Safari 18 or later
- Edge 148 or later
- Opera 130 or later
The platform has been tested with these browser-operating system combinations. We cannot guarantee that it will work with any other combinations.
After the contest
Will students and teachers receive certificates?
All participants receive a certificate of participation. Teachers organising the contest at their school also receive a certificate.
Students whose translations receive a special mention are awarded a special mention certificate.
Certificates are available in all 24 EU official languages.
You can download them after the contest from the contest platform. They will be be available until 1 June 2027.
What happens if my school is not selected?
Unfortunately, the number of schools that can participate each year is limited.
If your school is not selected, translators from the European Commission local office (Representation) in your country will offer an alternative Juvenes Translatores experience.
