Languages and translation at the European Commission

The European Commission is committed to making sure everyone can access information, understand their rights and obligations and participate in public debate in the 24 EU official languages.  

Through translating key documents, developing multilingual terminology and promoting plain language, the Directorate-General for Translation makes EU communication clear, accurate and inclusive. 

DG Translation deals with written texts. Oral interpretation services are provided by the Directorate-General for Interpretation.
