30 years ago, Sweden and Finland joined the EU as Member States. With them came two new official EU languages - Swedish and Finnish. This Translating Europe Workshop is devoted to celebrating the 30th anniversary of Swedish as an official EU language.
The TEW will be kicked off with an introductory speech by Juhani Lönnroth, former Director-General of the European Commission Directorate-General for Translation.
After that, we will walk down memory lane with Swedish-speaking translators and interpreters from the European Commission, the Council and the European Parliament. In a panel discussion, they will share their experiences from the past 30 years and shed some light on all the changes that have happened within the fields of EU translation and EU interpretation since 1995 and tell us more about their work today.
Last but not least, we will get to hear a presentation by the Swedish professor Björn Melander from the University of Uppsala who is specialized in "EU Swedish".
We also have some other nice gems in store for you, so make sure that you do not miss out on this celebration of 30 years of Swedish as an official EU language!
