The multilingual law: speaking, translating and innovating legal language and discourse

To mark the European Day of Justice, this event will examine the role of language in the legal field and the challenges it poses for communication across professional, cultural and linguistic contexts. The central themes addressed will include:

  • Speaking the law: features and functions of legal discourse
  • Untranslatables? The challenges of legal terminology
  • Bridging law and language: AI, IATE and EUR-Lex at the service of the EU

Bringing together scholars, legal practitioners, translators and translation students, this event aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on the nature of legal language, its practical implications and its impact on the interpretation and application of law. Participation is open to a broader audience with an interest in law, language and translation.
