A conference held on 20 April brought together policymakers, cultural and creative sectors, platforms and researchers, to discuss how to improve the discoverability of European cultural content in the digital environment.

The event was opened by Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef. He highlighted the importance of preserving Europe’s cultural and linguistic diversity while reinforcing its global competitiveness.

Participants discussed the findings of a recent study on the challenges and opportunities for the discoverability of European cultural content online. The study points to language silos and translation gaps, which limit cross-border circulation and leave cultural works in smaller and minority languages less visible.

The discussion also explored possible follow-up actions, including in the context of the forthcoming Culture Compass for Europe.

More information is available in the Study on the discoverability of diverse European cultural content in the digital environment.
