The European Commission and the Council of Europe have launched a new Motivation Manifesto that highlights why motivation is central to successful language learning.
Learners thrive when they feel welcomed, supported and part of a community, when they share responsibility in the learning process, and when they experience a sense of competence and success. The manifesto calls on policymakers, teachers, schools and families to create a supportive “motivational ecology” that values all languages equally and encourages lifelong learning.
Its launch marks the 25th anniversary of the European Day of Languages on 26 September - a day when the European Commission and the Council of Europe acknowledge their joint commitment to promoting multilingualism as a cornerstone of democracy, inclusion and competitiveness.
