Use the EU’s free resources for translators, interpreters and other language experts. They are built on our extensive professional translation expertise and can support your daily work. 


  • eTranslation

    eTranslation is the EU’s safe, secure neural machine translation service. It covers all 24 of the EU’s official languages (and some others). 

    You can choose from several translation styles: 

    • General Text (news articles, letters, informal content)
    • EU Formal Language (legal and institutional texts)
    • Finance
    • Court of Justice Case-Law
    • Intellectual Property Case-Law

    You can also upload your own glossary to control how terms are translated.  

    Who can use it? 

    Public administrations, small businesses, academia, non-governmental organisations, Digital Europe Programme projects and candidates for EU posts – based in an EU country or a country affiliated with the Digital Europe Programme.

  • Translation memories

    DGT-Translation Memory (DGT-TM) is the European Commission’s multilingual database of aligned sentences from EU law. It covers all 24 EU official languages and is freely available. 

    You can download it in TMX format, ready to use in most translation tools. The data comes from EU legislation and has been cleaned and aligned to improve quality. It is also available as a parsebank. 

    Who can use it? 
    Translators, researchers and developers can use DGT-TM to 

    • speed up translation work
    • keep terminology consistent
    • train or test machine translation systems
    • support research on multilingual text processing. 

    You can use DGT-TM for free under the EU’s reuse rules. Always acknowledge the European Commission as the source and mention the date you accessed the data.

  • IATE terminology database

    IATE (Interactive Terminology for Europe) is the EU’s  terminology management system. It contains millions of terms in all 24 of the EU’s official languages. 

    You can use IATE to 

    • search for terms and their equivalents in other EU languages
    • check their meaning
    • explore how they are used in context. 

    Who can use it? 

    Translators, interpreters, language professionals, researchers, students and anyone working with EU-related texts or needing to find an equivalent term in another language. 

    IATE is constantly updated by translators and terminologists across the EU institutions, making it the most authoritative multilingual terminology resource for EU-related work.

  • Knowledge Centre on Translation and Interpretation

    The Knowledge Centre on Translation and Interpretation (KCTI) gathers, analyses and shares information about translation, interpreting and language technologies across the EU. 

    You can use it to 

    • access reports, studies and statistics on translation and interpreting
    • find best practices, tools and guidance for language professionals
    • stay up to date on EU language policy and innovation in translation technology. 

    Who can use it? 

    Translators, interpreters, researchers and EU institutions can use KCTI resources to work more efficiently and make informed decisions.
